Microsoft announce delay for IE 8
December 06 2008
Microsoft say that IE8 won’t now be with us until Q2 2009. I’m looking forward to it’s arrival, because it will finally mean all the major browsers will be broadly standards-compliant, something we’ve been looking forward to for a long time. We’ll still have to code for IE7 and 6, but at least the main body of code will be clean.
Once it arrives, FourHats will test and finalise an update to our CSS layouts to take advantage of broad compatibility with CSS tables. This will allow us to use tabular layouts like we used to, but in CSS, the presentation layer, where it rightfully belongs. Hopefully we’ll end up with cleaner HTML, and cleaner CSS as a result.
